Oak Wards Marks New Chapter for Milton Keynes University Hospital

It was a real privilege to attend the opening of Oak Wards at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust this week – a major step forward for healthcare in our city.

What stood out to me most was the real sense of dignity and compassion built into every part of the design. From dementia-friendly features to calm, modern spaces for patients and staff, this is exactly the kind of investment our growing city needs.

Milton Keynes is one of the fastest-growing cities in the country, and with that growth must come investment in the public services local people rely on. As more families choose to make Milton Keynes their home, it is essential that our NHS has the facilities, staff, and support it needs to keep pace with our city’s ambition and future potential.

Oak Wards will make a real difference for patients living with frailty, dementia, and complex healthcare needs, while helping ensure local residents can continue to access high-quality care close to home.

It also represents another important milestone in the wider transformation taking place across MKUH, alongside the new Imaging Centre and Radiotherapy Centre. Our hospital is evolving to meet the demands of one of the UK’s fastest-growing cities, and that is something everyone in Milton Keynes should welcome.
