When I was elected in July 2024, I made a personal promise: to never use, excuse, or stay silent about men’s violence against women. That’s the White Ribbon promise – and now I want our entire Parliament to make it too.
In my latest piece for 50:50 Parliament, I share why I’m campaigning to make the UK Parliament the first in the world to become White Ribbon accredited — committing not just to a symbol, but to real, cultural change. That means better training, stronger reporting systems, and a shift in workplace culture so that every woman who works in or visits Parliament feels safe, respected, and heard.
Thanks to people like Speaker Lindsay Hoyle and Lucy Powell – and a new generation of MPs who came in asking “what is going on here?” – we finally have the momentum. But we must act now, while the will to change is strong.
This isn’t just about Westminster. A Parliament that takes a stand against violence sets the tone for the whole country – and shows the world what real leadership looks like.
Becoming White Ribbon accredited is our opportunity to lead by example – not just for the people who work here, but for every woman and girl in the UK, and for Parliaments around the world watching what we do next.
