On Wednesday, I had the pleasure of welcoming the Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Lisa Nandy MP, to Milton Keynes Central Library as they launched the government’s £88 million investment in youth services. It was a proud day for our city, and I am even prouder to see our incredible young people take centre stage.
Lisa Nandy described it as “one of the best days I’ve had in the job”, praising MK’s youth as “phenomenal.” From music lessons to community projects, the energy and talent of our young people left a lasting impression – and I couldn’t agree more.
As the MP for Milton Keynes Central, I’m continually inspired by the potential of our young people. Through the summer school that I’m currently running for 15-18 year olds in my constituency, I’ve seen first-hand just how thoughtful, curious, and capable they are.
This new £88 million package, part of the Building Creative Futures initiative, will give young people across the country more opportunities to engage, grow, and thrive – from climbing walls and gym equipment to debating, volunteering, and music lessons.
After over a decade of underinvestment in youth services, this is a vital step to reconnect young people with their communities and build a brighter future – for them and for all of us.
