Secretary Of Defence Praises Milton Keynes’s Solidarity with Ukraine

I am deeply proud to stand with the Ukraine Appeal and the Sunflower Ukrainian Supplementary School in Milton Keynes as our community responds to the recent attacks on Kyiv and the British Council.

On Monday, I shared a poignant statement from Viktoriya Shtanko – CEO of both organisations – with the Secretary of State for Defence, John Healey MP in Parliament. Her words painted a powerful picture: the British Council is much more than bricks and mortar – it is “a symbol of education, culture, and international partnership,” and the assault on it struck at the heart of what the UK stands for.

Mr Healey paid tribute to the people of Milton Keynes who opened their homes to Ukrainian families, particularly children – offering warmth, safety, and solidarity in the face of conflict.

I encourage you to read the full article to learn more about this touching recognition – and to discover the powerful “Faces of Ukrainian Dream” exhibition at Bletchley Park, created by Ukrainian children displaced by war.
