Sleeping Out So Others Don’t Have To: Supporting Young People Facing Homelessness in Milton Keynes

This November, I’ll be joining compassionate people from across Milton Keynes for an unforgettable night – sleeping out at Stadium MK to raise vital funds YMCA Milton Keynes. Together, we’re helping to support young people facing poverty, homelessness, and other serious challenges in our city.

Homelessness is an issue I hold close to my heart. It’s shaped by my background as the Cabinet Member responsible for tackling rough sleeping at Milton Keynes City Council, and now as Vice-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Homelessness. Every day, I see how complex this issue is – and how transformative compassion, policy, and practical support can be when they come together.

Spending one night sleeping out at MK Stadium is a small glimpse of the true perils of rough sleeping, but it will be a deeply eye opening experience. As a policymaker, walking in the shoes of those without a home offers vital insight into what needs to change – from the systems and support available, to how we treat those living this reality every day. It’s also a powerful opportunity to raise funds for the organisations making a difference on the ground.

Homelessness can happen to any of us, and this experience is a valuable reminder of that truth.
