A Cleaner, Greener NHS for Milton Keynes

I’m delighted to share some truly positive news for our community and our NHS.

Recently, it was confirmed that £162,000 of Government funding will go towards clean energy upgrades at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This funding forms part of a broader initiative supporting nearly 200 NHS sites across the country to lower energy costs and cut carbon emissions – through clean power projects delivered alongside Great British Energy.

Too often, precious NHS resources are absorbed by soaring energy bills instead of being invested where they matter most: frontline services for patients. By installing clean power systems and energy-saving infrastructure, we are helping the hospital keep more of its funding for patient care, not wasteful overheads.

In Milton Keynes, this investment means:

  • Lower energy bills for our hospital – saving money that can be reinvested in services, staff, and equipment.
  • A more sustainable hospital estate, contributing to the NHS’s broader efforts to reduce emissions and become more resilient.
  • Support for our future hospital plans – this project dovetails with the £500 million new hospital due to be built between 2027 and 2030, setting a standard for 21st-century healthcare in our city.

We are seeing a real commitment from this Government – not just to build new healthcare facilities, but to make sure our existing ones work smarter and more efficiently too.

As we implement these improvements locally and push forward with plans for a new hospital for Milton Keynes and North Buckinghamshire, I will continue to champion investments that support our NHS staff and deliver better care for patients.

I want to thank the teams at MKUH and Great British Energy for their commitment to this work – and I look forward to seeing real benefits for our community as this funding is put to work.
